2021 Annual Thai Medicine & Massage Gathering
Fri, Apr 16, 2021 4:30 PM  Sat, Apr 17, 2021 4:00 PM

Special Event!
We are excited to again offer this yearly gathering to the growing Thai massage and medicine community.
Due to the ongoing pandemic and to ensure everyone’s safety, we will not be meeting in-person in NJ. We are truly making lemonade out of lemons this year. Since it is still not safe for us to gather in person, we have come up with some fabulous opportunities for you that could only be possible in the virtual world.

We’ve been working hard to develop a unique LIVE virtual Gathering over zoom to support this beautiful community, share stories, educate, play, expand our hands-on Thai massage practice, deepen our TTM knowledge, and celebrate Songkran (Thai New Year)!
Although this event is online, it is live and interactive. There will be several hands-on sessions as well as panel discussions and more. To take advantage of the virtual format, we are excited to share that this year’s event will feature a number of teachers joining us from Thailand, including a Wai Khru discussion by ITM-Chiang Mai master teacher Chongkol Setthkorn. And a hands-on demonstration by Pichet Boonthuume on treating the shoulder in his unique and legendary approach to massage. We are also honored to have another powerful teacher from Chiang Mai, Homprang Chaleekanha, who is joining us LIVE from the Baan Hom Samunphrai Thai Massage and Herbal Medicine Center. Felicity Joy is also joining us LIVE from Chiang Mai to share her deep knowledge of abdominal massage.
In addition to the teachers from Thailand, we are bringing in some other new additions that we are excited about! Janice Gagnon of Spirit Winds School of Thai Massage in CA will be sharing about Jap Sen and the Mama Lek lineage. Leslie Ann Blodgett will offer a segment on the Thai language.

American Thai Massage:

Here is an example of how Thai Massage is studied by Americans. Many people travel to Thailand an go to one of the tourist schools. The standard program is modeled after the Old Medicine Hospital curriculum which is 60 hrs. Divided between two weeks Week 2 builds on week one. 30 hrs. Of school per week. Essentially, it is an Intensive. Typically, after an intensive, if we do not practice and review, we tend to forget everything when it gets crammed into 2 weeks. So, Americans get together over a long weekend to do just that, practice and review the same material from the intensive programs in Thailand.

This one is reforming under new leadership.

Jill Burynski

And of course, we will have our fantastic regular presenters as well. Nephyr Jacobsen of the Naga Center in Oregon will present on Thai Traditional Medicine. Jill Burynski of Living Sabai in North Carolina will have a hands-on Thai Foot Massage presentation. Gregory Oed of Touch Alchemy in MD and David Wells of Wells Yoga in NY will be offering Reusi Dat Ton. Rose Griscom of ITM-USA in NJ & DE will be leading the Songkran celebration. Al Turner II of Two Souls Thai Massage in NYC will be offering a hands-on presentation.
And while Pierce Salguero has offered his time to create space for teachers from Thailand, he will be with us in spirit and is sharing a list of resources and reading.
Schedule: Friday April 16, 4:30pm-9pm and Saturday April 17, 11:30am-4pm, for a total of 9hrs over 2 half-days. All times are in EST.
Discount tution of only $65pp is extended; registration deadline end of day April 13th; no late registrations accepted.

Jill Burynski of Living Sabai in Asheville has agreed to ‘take the mantle forward’ since I am now in Southern California and ready to pass the administrative torch after 8 years of wonderful events.

Dear friends,
We hope this message finds you well and that your holidays have been happy, healthy, and peaceful.
We are excited to share with you that there will be a ‘rebirth’ of the Thai Gathering!
We both know how much this beautiful community loves gathering together. And we respect the unique space that you/we have all created with your love, kindness, inclusivity, and dedication.
I am grateful to Jill for taking on this task, and beyond excited to continue the Gathering in its same-same-but-different form of the Thai Summit!
As in all re-births, some things are the same and some things are different.

Jill Burynski of Living Sabai in Asheville has agreed to take over the leadership from Rose Griscomb and continue the Thai gathering. After 8 years of organizing successful events, I am now in Southern California and ready to pass on the administrative responsibilities. This marks a new chapter and a rebirth for the gathering.

What’s different is the location (a stunning retreat outside of Asheville North Carolina), the scenery (Blue Ridge Mountains instead of New Jersey beaches), the time of year (September instead of April), and the days of the week (Tue/Wed/Thu instead of Fri-Mon).

What’s the same is fantastic presenters with new topics (we welcome back Pierce Salguero, Al Turner II, Nephyr Jacobsen, David Wells, plus some inspiring special guests), daily morning Wai Khru and Reusi Dat Ton, NCMTMB CEs, single or communal housing options, reasonable costs, an inspiring setting, welcoming energy, and sharing the joys of Traditional Thai Massage and Medicine.

Reserve the dates!

The ‘Thai Summit’, will be at Lake Eden in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, NC, over 3 days, Sept 19-21, 2023 (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday).

We’re first reaching out to past attendees and you’ll get an email with more details when registration opens in spring 2023. We do expect the event to sell out so let us know you’re interested and save those dates!

We are grateful to once again come together in person to support each other, laugh, do bodywork, learn, expand our knowledge, share stories, and celebrate!

Look for an email in spring with more details. If you have questions before then, please contact Jill at info@livingsabai.com.
